ICC World Cup 2019: West Indies thrash Pakistan by 7 wickets

Nottingham: Two-time champions West Indies defeated Pakistan by seven wickets and began their World Cup campaign with an emphatic victory at Trent Bridge here in England on Friday.

In a one-sided match, West Indies easily chased the victory target of 106 runs by scoring 108 for three in just 13.4 overs. Chris Gayle put up 50 off 34 balls which included 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Earlier put to bat, Pakistan was all out scoring 105 runs in 21.4 overs, their second-lowest total in World Cup history.

Only two Pakistan batsmen passed 20 runs mark. Opener Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam were the joint top-scorers with 22 each.

West Indies’ Oshane Thomas took four wickets,  while Captain Jason Holder and Andre Russell claimed three and two wickets respectively.

Thomas was adjudged Player of the Match for his 4 for 27.
