Nobody comes alive out of this temple situated in Hierapolis area of Turkey. Neither human being, nor animal or birds come out alive of this temple, reports say. This mysterious temple is situated on the top of a cave. This temple is also regarded as the gateway to the underworld.

About 2 thousand years ago, ancient tourists arrived at this temple. They observed many animals and birds were dropped dead at the entrance of the temple.

The cave (atop which the temple is located) is named Plutonium after Pluto, the God of the underworld. It was believed that all these animals were dead due to ‘breath of death’. However, the divinely immune priests are not dead. It was believed as a mythological happening for long years.

It was really astonishing to find how come animals and birds die once they enter this temple. However, after long years, a scientific explanation of this mysterious occurrence was available.

According to a Research published by the journal of Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences there lies an opening under the temple. This opening emits concentrated carbon dioxide which actually is responsible for killing of the animals and birds.

“Research published by the journal of Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences in February shows that a fissure in the earth’s surface, deep beneath the site, emits carbon dioxide at concentrations so high it can be deadly”, CNN reported.

It was said that during the research period alone, several dead birds, mice and more than 70 dead beetles were found. This temple was reportedly founded around 190 BC.

However, though animals and birds were found dead, it was said that the priests (humans) are not dead. This was another mystery. Was it because of their divine providence or simply because they held their breath.

The research has an answer even to this mysterious exception. CO2 is heavier than oxygen. Hence, it forms a toxic gas layer above the ground. Now, humans and animals are of different height. While the animals’ nostril is close to the ground due to their physical structure, humans has the advantage of their height. The nostrils of these animals remain in the gas layer.

Accordingly, as the priests were tall, they did not had to inhale the toxic Carbon dioxide gas. Besides, the priests knew that the concentration of the Carbon dioxide fluctuates at different time of the day. It was said that the CO2 level was high at dawn and dusk, as sunlight disperses the gas.
