Nine lemons sold for Rs 2.3 lakhs at auction in Tamil Nadu, Know why

Nine healing lemons, believed to cure infertility were sold for Rs 2.3 lakh at auction from a temple in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. According to devotes, consuming these healing lemons can cure infertility issues.

As per the reports given by the Times of India, the management of the temple for lord Muruga auctions the lemons every year during the Panguni Uthiram festival. It is specifically auctioned for the couple who are childless, and they visit the temple in a hope to become parents by consuming the healing lemon.

Reportedly, one of the lemon got sold at Rs 50,500 in the first day of the festival. In the nine-day festival, one lemon is tied to a deity’s spear by a priest every day. While another lemon was fetched for Rs 7,600 at an auction that was held as part of a temple fest in Tamil Nadu’s Erode district. This lemon was put up for an auction during Mahashivarathri festival at Pazhathinni Karuppannan temple.

As per mythology, lemons hold a revered status in spirituality in various cultures, often symbolising purity, cleansing and warding off negative energies in different cultures.

In several parts of the country, lemon and green chillies are hung on doorsteps and vehicles to put a check on evil spirits. Additionally, lemons are often used in rituals associated with black magic.
