Balenciaga trolled over Rs 77,000 bath towel skirt; Netizens react to the bizarre clothing design

Luxury fashion brand Balenciaga has once again found itself at the center of controversy, this time for its newly launched bath towel skirt.

Luxury fashion brand Balenciaga has once again found itself at the center of controversy, this time for its newly launched bath towel skirt. The skirt, which is priced at a whopping Rs 77,000 ($925), has been met with widespread mockery and disbelief on social media.

The garment, which was unveiled during the brand’s Spring 2024 show in Paris, resembles a simple bath towel wrapped around the waist. It features an adjustable waistband and is made from terry cotton. The skirt is attributed to Demna Gvasalia, the Georgian fashion designer who has been at the helm of Balenciaga since 2015.

The high price tag and questionable design of the bath towel skirt have sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users questioning the value of the garment. Some netizens have even dubbed it a “scam” and a “rip-off.”

Gvasalia has defended the design, stating that it is a reflection of his desire to create “quality clothes” rather than simply “image or buzz.” He has also pointed out that the skirt is unisex and can be worn in a variety of ways.

This is not the first time that Balenciaga has been criticized for its unusual designs. The brand has a history of releasing controversial and avant-garde items, such as its $1,850 “destroyed” sneakers and its $1,800 “trash pouch” handbag.
