Soro: Tension engulfed Soro Community Health Centre (CHC) premises in Balasore district this morning after a critically injured man died under treatment and his family members attacked his brother-in-law over murder allegation.

The deceased identified as Karunakar Majhi of Maharudrapur village of Bahanaga block was rushed to the CHC by his in-laws after sustaining critical injury during a family quarrel on Sunday afternoon. He succumbed under treatment early in the morning today.

After the deceased’s in-laws called up his family and reported about his death, a group of men led by his kin reached the hospital later in the morning. Alleging that the deceased had been beaten to death by his in-laws, they thrashed his brother-in-law Kalia Majhi mercilessly. Later they lodged a complaint against the in-laws in connection with the case at Soro Police Station.

However the accused brother-in-law has rubbished the murder allegation by claiming that Karunakar’s death was due to heavy liquor consumption.

On the other hand, the slain man’s eight-year-old son has also substantiated the murder allegation. The minor said Karunakar who was staying at her in-law’s house in Sunari village under Sabira panchayat for last four years had been badly thrashed by his brother-in-law Kalia and father-in-law Narendra on the day of the incident over consuming alcohol.

Police are investigating into the case.
