Wild jumbo tramples man to death in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: In yet another incident of human-animal conflict in the state a man has been trampled to death by a wild elephant in Ostapal village in Dhenkanal district today.

The deceased has been identified as Benudhar Nayak of the same village.

Nayak, who had gone to collect cashew from a garden early in the morning was plucking the nuts when came across the pachyderm. The animal which had sneaked into the garden last night in search of food took no time in pouncing on the victim and killing them on the spot.

Residents in Ostapal village were left in a state of panic following the incident as the elephant kept roaming inside the cashew garden after the attack.

Forest officials have rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and drive the jumbo away from the human habitat.
