Tourists have been urged not to visit the Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district through Barehipani, Kumari and Gurguria entries due to protest by locals, informed Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda.

Baripada: Tourists have been urged not to visit the Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district through Barehipani, Kumari and Gurguria entries due to protest by locals, informed Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda.

Taking to his X handle, Nanda said that due to protests by Local people, visitors are requested not to proceed to Similipal Nature camps at Barehipani, Kumari and Gurguria till further information. Other places of Simlipal for tourists are open, he added.

Notably, activists of Similipal Bikash Parishad, a local outfit working for the development of the area, have reportedly blocked Joranda Chhak, Sana Uski, Chala, and Lanjighosara Chhak to press for a five-point charter of demands including construction of road to all the villages inside the Similipal under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana(PMGSY).
