Top Maoist leader involved in Nayagarh armoury loot surrenders

Malkangiri: Dreaded Maoist leader Narasimha Reddy alias Jampanna surrendered to Telengana Police on Saturday along with his spouse. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 Cr on his head.

Jampanna surrendered before Telengana Police this morning after he expressed his interest to return to normal life. Ample security arrangement was made for the surrender of the Maoist who was involved in a number of major ambushes carried out by ultras in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in past few years.

He led the rebels in the 2008 Nayagarh armoury loot and 2004 Koraput district armoury attack in Odisha. Later on he had a narrow escape in an anti-insurgency operation in Telan reserve forest on the Kalahandi-Kandhamal border in December 2014.

Notably, Jampanna who belongs to Charlapalem of Thorrur mandal in Telengana State, remained underground for over 30 years before laying down arms.
