Three government officials convicted in bribery case in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district
Three government officials have been convicted in bribery case in Bhuban block of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
Dhenkanal: Three government officials have been convicted in bribery case in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district. The accused have been identified as Nilamani Nayak, Ex Junior Engineer, Bharat Chandra Prusty, Ex-Head Clerk (Retired) and Banshidhar Pradhan, Ex-Cashier (Retired) of Bhuban block of the district.
According to official reports, the three accused were caught while demanding and accepting bribe from a Contractor for release of final bill in connection with execution of cement concrete road.
The Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, sentenced Nilamani and Bharat Chandra rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fine of Rs.20,000 each. In default of payment of fine, the court has said them to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months each more.
The Hon’ble Court further sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months each for the offence U/s 120-B IPC. All the sentences are to run concurrently.
The Court also convicted another accused Banshidhar Pradhan and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.5,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988.
Sahadev Nayak, Ex-Inspector, Vigilance, Cuttack Division had investigated the case and Gadadhar Sahu, Spl. P.P and Hemanta Kumar Khatua, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Dhenkanal jointly conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
