Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission has revised the limit of candidates ahead of Municipal polls in Odisha.
Reportedly, the expenditure limit has been revised that may be incurred by a candidate either by himself or through any person authorized by him for election as Councillor/ Corporator/ Chairperson/ Mayor to a NAC/ Municipality/ Municipal Corporation.
The decision has been taken after consulting with State Government in the exercise of the powers conferred under Sub-Section (1) of Section 17-A of the Odisha Municipal Act, 1950 and Section-82 of Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003.

It is to be noted that earlier on Monday, State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi had informed that the Covid restrictions for the upcoming three-tier panchayat polls have been relaxed.
The door-to-door campaign has been allowed with 20 persons, including the candidate and the public meetings can be organized by the Political Parties/Contesting Candidates with the prior permission of the appropriate authority with a maximum of 300 persons in open ground with strict adherence to Covid protocols.
