Revenue minister Pramila Mallik resigns, files nomination for Odisha Assembly Speaker

Bhubaneswar: The Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik has resigned from her post on Thursday, said reliable reports.

According to reliable reports, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Pramila Mallik reached Naveen Niwas this morning and tendered her resignation from the post.

Further, it is worth mentioning that the Minister has reached the Odisha Assembly to file the nomination papers for the post of Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.

The Odisha ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on September 20 named senior party leader and Binjharpur MLA Pramila Mallik as its candidate for the election of the Assembly Speaker.

Election for the Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker will be held on September 22. Pramila Mallik will be the first ever woman Speaker of the Odisha Assembly.

The six-time MLA had contested the State assembly election for the first time in 1990 on a Janata Dal ticket. Later, she won the elections in 2000, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 on the BJD ticket.

“I am grateful to honourable Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for reposing faith in women and selecting me as the first woman candidate for the Odisha Assembly Speaker election. I will try my best to run the Assembly in an impartial manner by taking everybody or every party together,” said Malik in her reaction. She will file her nomination papers for the Assembly Speaker election today, that is on Thursday.
