Purnima Hembram wins Bronze in Women's HeptathlonBhubaneswar: In what could be considered as a major relief for sports lovers in Odisha, who were disappointed by the performance of three ace Odia athletes Srabani Nanda, Dutee Chand and Amiya Mallick in the medals round of the 200 metres women’s and men’s sprint events, Purnima Hembram bagged the Bronze medal in Women’s Heptathlon on the last day of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships (AAC) here today.

The pride of Odisha and country got the medal with 5798 points while her compatriot Swapna Barman won the gold with 5942 points.

With the Bronze medal of Hembram, Odisha bagged only four bronze medals in the championship.

Earlier, Dutee got one bronze medal each in the women’s 100m race and the Women’s 4x100m relay event.

Srabani, who was also a member of the Indian Women’s 4x100m relay team, received a Bronze medal along with Marlyn Joseph and Himashree Roy, the other team members.
