Property worth lakhs gutted as fire breaks out in Odisha village

Angul: Property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at one of the streets of Patrapada village under Chhendipada block of the district today.

According to sources, a fire broke out at one of the houses of the village while a housewife was cooking food. Suddenly it spread to other houses of the village as most of the houses were thatched houses.

The villagers soon informed the local firefighters and tried their best to douse the inferno. However, by the time the fire brigade arrive at the spot and took control of the fire at least 40 houses had already turned to ashes in the fire.

The locals demanded compensation from the state government and local administration alleging that most of the villagers are said to have left with only the clothes they were wearing.

“The fire took place when a woman was cooking food today. It spread to other houses within no time. We called the firefighters and doused the fire with their help. However, most of us have lost everything except for the dress that we are wearing now. Therefore, the government should provide us some relief materials and compensation as well,” said a local.
