Private tutor gets 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping minor student in Jajpur district
A special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) in Jajpur district sentenced a private tutor to a 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor student in the district in 2020.
Jajpur: A special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) in Jajpur district sentenced a private tutor to a 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor student in the district in 2020.
One Mohan Bhuyan under Panikoili police station limits reportedly raped two minor students in two consecutive days by asking them to stay back after the classes. Later, two separate cases were filed by the family members of the victims against Bhuyan.
Judge Abhijit Palai of ADJ and Special POCSO Court today conducted hearing in one of the cases and convicted Bhuyan based on the statements of 20 witnesses and evidence and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years. Besides, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh on him and asked directed him to stay in the prison for 18 months more if he fails to pay the fine.
This apart, the court also directed the Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the rape victim.
