Bargarh: The vote counting of the by-election conducted in Padampur Assembly constituency of Odisha is going on today. The counting began at 8 a.m.
There will be 23 rounds of counting for the by-poll. Each table will have three persons, one counting supervisor, one counting assistant and one micro observer. The by-poll for Padampur was held on December 5, 2022. Fate of 10 candidates including BJD, BJP and Congress will be known today. The ruling BJD has nominated Barsha Singh Bariha, daughter of late MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha, whose death necessitated the by-poll. The BJP has nominated Pradip Purohit, who had won the seat in 2014 but lost to BJD’s Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha in 2019 with a margin of 5734 votes. Congress fielded three-time MLA Satya Bhusan Sahu.

- After 1st round of counting BJD leads with 5501 votes, followed by BJP with 3789 votes, and Congress has got 206. That means as of now BJD is ahead of BJP by 1712 votes.
- After 2nd round of counting BJD is leading and it is ahead of BJP by 3607 votes. Hence, after 2nd round BJD’s Barsha Singh Bariha has got total 10,598 votes, followed by BJP’s Pradeep Purohit who has got total 6979 votes. Satya Bhusan Sahu of Congress is in the third place with 366 votes.
- After 3rd round of counting, BJD is leading with 15,916 votes while BJP has so far got 10,150 votes. Congress has so far got 474 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 5766 votes.
- After 4th round of counting, BJD is still leading with 21,837 votes while BJP has so far got 13,659 votes. Congress has so far got 616 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 8178 votes.
- After 5th round of counting, BJD is still leading with 26,198 votes while BJP has so far got 17,816 votes. Congress has so far got 845 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 8382 votes.
- After 6th round of counting, BJD is leading with 31,886 votes while BJP has so far got 21,182 votes. Congress has so far got 970 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 10,704 votes.
- After 7th round of counting, BJD is leading with 37,651 votes. BJP has so far got 25,103 votes. Congress has so far got 1131 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 12,548 votes.
- After 8th round of counting, BJD is leading with 43,691 votes. BJP has so far got 28,150 votes. Congress has so far got 1634 votes. That means BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is ahead of BJP candidate Pradeep Purohit by 15,541 votes.
