Bhubaneswar: Congress today announced Manju Rath as its candidate for the post of Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC). The announcement was made by the party.
Reportedly, the posts of Mayor of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) were reserved for women candidates.
The municipal elections will be held in 106 Urban Local Bodies. The Mayor and Chairperson will be elected directly for the first time.
It is to be noted that the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on March 9, 2022 following which the candidates can withdraw their nomination up to March 14, 2022.
There will be 3,030 booths in 1,731 wards of 106 Urban Local Bodies where more than Rs 27 lakhs people will cast their votes. She will be locking horns with BJD’s Sanghamitra Dalei and BJP’s Sabita Suar for the post.
Similarly, there are 168 wards in the three municipal corporations which will have 1,407 booths where 17,000 people will cast their votes.
Adding to it, the polling is scheduled to be held on March 24 followed by counting of votes and declaration of results on March 26.
