Odisha Urban Polls: BJD announces Mayor Candidates for three municipal corporations

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today announced its candidates for the post of Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Berhampur Municipal Corporations (BeMC). The announcement was made by the party.

Reportedly, the following persons have been nominated as Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidates for the post of Mayor as indicated against each:

1. Sanghamitra Dalei for Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC), Ganjam district president of BJD Mahila Morcha
2. Sulochana Das for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), BJD Spokesperson
3. Subhash Singh for Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), Rajya Sabha member and national spokesperson for BJD

It is to be noted that the municipal elections will be held in 106 Urban Local Bodies. The Mayor and Chairperson will be elected directly for the first time.

There are 168 wards in the three municipal corporations which will have 1,407 booths where 17,000 people will cast their votes.

As announced earlier by the State Election Commission (SEC), scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on March 9. While polling is scheduled to be held on March 24, counting of votes and declaration of results will be done on March 26.
