Odisha Govt to procure 60 lakh metric tonnes paddy this year
Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has set a target of procuring 60 lakh metric tonnes of paddy In Kharif Marketing Season 2019-20, informed Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on Thursday.
“Around 50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy will be collected in Kharif Marketing Season starting from October 1, 2019, while 10 lakh metric tonnes of paddy to be collected in coming Rabi season,” said Tripathy after the State cabinet approved Food and Procurement Policy for Kharif Marketing Season 2019-20.
The State government has also fixed a tentative target of procuring around 41 lakh metric tonnes of rice this year, he added.
Paddy is procured for farmers by payment of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and is milled through Customers Millers. The Rice so obtained is pumped into State’s Public Distribution System (PDS) and the surplus rice is delivered to the central pool through the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
In the Kharif Marketing Season 2018-19, the government of Odisha had procured 65.49 lakh metric in tonnes of paddy from farmers in the State.
This year, around 10 lakh farmers from across the State have been registered with Odisha State Civil Supplies Corporation.
