Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Wednesday declared that it would look after the baby girl, who was found crying near her mother’s body in Koraput forest yesterday.
Women and Child Welfare Minister Prafulla Samal said that the state government will take care of the 18-month-old girl until she becomes 18 year-old.
This apart, the Minister also directed the Koraput district collector to investigate the matter and submit a report.
The baby was found crying near her mother’s body in Nilagiri forest near Kumbhariput village under Borigumma police limits yesterday morning. Some locals found the infant first after hearing her cries and informed the police and firefighters.
Firefighters rescued the child from the spot and rushed her to the Borigumma hospital as she had sustained some injuries on her body.
A team of Kumbhariput police also reached the spot and seized the body of the woman who is yet to be identified. The cops are also clueless about her death.
