Odisha CM not to celebrate Holi in memory of Pulwama martyrs

Bhubaneswar: As a tribute to the martyrs of Pulwama terror attack, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced today not celebrate Holi tomorrow.

Patnaik also requested his well-wishers not to throng to his residence Naveen Niwas for the Holi celebration.

Notably, 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed in a terrorist attack which took place at Lethpora in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February this year. Two Odia jawans – Manoj Kumar Behera and Prasanna Kumar Sahu – were among the 40 soldiers who lost their lives in the attack.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the CM had skipped the Holi celebration last year too due to a bad health condition. “I will not be playing Holi as I have a cold,” Patnaik had said on Mar 1, 2018.

Earlier too Naveen did not celebrate the festival of colours. He had not celebrated Holi in 2016 due to the drought situation in the state, and in 2014 due to the cyclone ‘Phailin’ which killed 21 people in the state.
