Niali Sheep Killing visuals shown by media fake: Minister

‘Niali Sheep Killing’ visuals shown by media is fake: Minister Bhubaneswar: Forest and Environment Minister Bijayashree Routray on Wednesday claimed that nobody has yet seen the animal behind the serial killing of sheep in Niali area and made it amply clear that the visuals of the purported killer animal shown in a section of the media are all fake.

The Minister said that there is no such place near Niali shown repeatedly by a TV channel. Rama sialas (Wolves) are suspected to be the real killers of the sheep. They kill the sheep and dig out their livers.

“Forest officials are on the spot and are well prepared to catch the animals. Three teams have been pressed into service. They are particularly vigilant from 2 to 4 AM, the time when the wild animal is most likely to attack the sheep. Though nobody has seen the animals, from the footprints, it is assumed that the animals are Rama sialas (Wolve). They kill domestic animals and feed their cubs with livers of the sheep as this is the period of their breeding. We have identified a den of the animal and efforts are on to trace the animal,” said Routray.

The minister also said that Camera traps will be installed at various locations to catch the Rama sialas.

More than 150 sheep have been killed by some mysterious animals at different villages in Niali area of Cuttack in the last two months.
