Nuapada: Red fear loomed large in Nuapada district last night after suspected members of CPI (Maoist) group attacked a road construction camp in Sinapali block and torched a number of vehicles.

A group of heavily armed Maoists barged into Contractor Mahendra Agarwal’s camp located along Gorla-Dumerbahal Road late in the night while workers were engaged in the construction of a culvert. After threatening and driving the workers out of the camp the red rebels first set a mixture machine to fire and then went on torching other vehicles kept in the camp one after the other.

As the panicked workers fled away from the spot the cadres put up a number of posters at different places inside the camp criticising the alleged police excess on innocent villagers in the name of anti-Maoist operations. They also dubbed some of the recent anti-Maoist operations by police to be fake and appealed people to join the revolution overwhelmingly.

The posters released in the name of Odisha State Committee of CPI (Maoist) heavily criticised the police encounter which killed at least six red rebels in Odisha’s Kandhamal and Balangir districts on May 23 and called for a bandh protesting it on June 4. The bandh will be observed in Nuapada, Balangir and Bargarh districts of Odisha along with Mahasamund and Gariaband districts of Chhattisgarh simultaneously.

Security forces have intensified combing in and around Sinapali block following the incident.
