Manorama Mohanty takes charge as the Director of Bhubaneswar IMD office

Weather scientist Dr. Manorama Mohanty took charge as the new Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.

Bhubaneswar: Weather scientist Dr. Manorama Mohanty took charge as the new Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre. She took charge from HR Biswas, who has been transferred to Kolkata office of the IMD (India Meteorological Department).

While speaking to the media persons after assuming the office, Mohanty expressed her happiness for getting the opportunity to work in her home-state. It is a great challenge to give a proper and correct weather prediction. However, I will use my knowledge and experience and try my best to give the accurate weather alerts, Mohanty said.

The weather department and media always play a vital role while reaching out to the people about the weather prediction and I hope their co-operation will continue, she added.

It is to be noted here that the Ministry of Earth Sciences on December 30, 2023 approved the promotion of the 13 weather scientists including Manorama Mohanty with ‘E’ Pay Matrix Level-13 to the post of Scientist ‘F’ Pay Matrix Level-13 A and posted her to be the director of the Bhubaneswar regional centre.

Dr Mohanty completed her Master’s Degree in Physics from Bhubaneswar-based Utkal University and joined the IMD. She is credited for accurate forecasts of the powerful cyclones ‘Tauktae’ and ‘Biparjoy’ formed over the Arabian Sea.
