Low pressure over BoB: Odisha to receive light to moderate rain today, Heavy rainfall from tomorrow

Several parts of Odisha will receive light to moderate rainfall today while heavy rainfall will be witnessed in several districts tomorrow.

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that several parts of Odisha will receive light to moderate rainfall today under the influence of a low-pressure area that has formed in the Bay of Bengal.

Some places of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and one or two places of the districts of Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Cuttack will receive light to moderate rainfall today.

Moreover, the low-pressure area formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a deep depression which is predicted to cause heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha on November 16, said IMD.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in coastal Odisha for Thursday. Some places of Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Kendrapara will likely receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Apart from this, heavy rain is expected in some places of Ganjam, Khurdha, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh districts. The rainfall will continue to batter Odisha till November 17. A yellow warning expecting heavy rain has been issued to various districts for November 17, 2023.

As per the weather forecast, the coastal areas of Odisha will witness windspeeds of 55kmph to 65 kmph under the influence of the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

So, the Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea from November 15 to November 17 till further notice.
