Koraput: Former plant manager of OMFED sentenced to 2 years RI         

The Former Plant Manager (retired) of OMFED at Jeypore of Odisha’s Koraput district has been convicted in a vigilance case.

Koraput: The Former Plant Manager (retired) of Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) at Jeypore of Odisha’s Koraput district has been convicted in a vigilance case. The ex-plant manager, identified as Umesh Chandra Mahapatra has been sentenced to 2 years rigorous imprisonment following the conviction.

The conviction came in connection with a case vide Special Judge Vigilance, Jeypore TR No 7/2014 under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Umesh Chandra has been alleged to be involved in criminal misconduct, resulting in a loss of approximately Rs 11 Lakhs to the Government.

Following his conviction,  the convict has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and fined Rs 5,000/-. In default of payment of the fine, he will face an additional rigorous imprisonment for 2 months for committing the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

In the wake of this conviction, the Odisha Vigilance will initiate the process of seeking stoppage of Umesh Chandra Mahapatra’s pension as a consequence of his criminal actions.
