Irate locals beat bear to death after it killed man in Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur: Some irate locals reportedly beat a wild bear to death after it killed a man in Nabarangpur district of Odisha on Saturday. The incident took place at Bikramapur Bhatra village of the district.

One Brijesh Kumar of Madhya Pradesh, who was engaged in road construction in the area, was attacked by the bear this morning. After hearing his cry for help some villagers rushed to the spot and rescued him from the wild animal. They also informed the forest officials about the incident.

After reaching the spot, the forest officials tried their best to pacify the angry locals, who had gheraoed the animal, and assured to disperse the bear from the locality. However, the angry villagers were not in a mood to listen to them and killed the wild animal as Brijesh, who had sustained grievous injuries, died on the spot.

Later, the forest officials seized the carcass of the bear and sent it for postmortem. Meanwhile, DFO said that stringent action would be taken against those who killed the animal.
