House rent fraud in Bhubaneswar on the rise, 1 arrested

In yet another instance of cyber crime in Odisha, there have been reports of house rent fraud in Bhubaneswar. 

Bhubaneswar: In yet another instance of cybercrime in Odisha, there have been reports of house rent fraud in Bhubaneswar. The frauds claimed to give houses on rent and defrauded people.

The targets were the students who were staying or searching for rented accommodation in Bhubaneswar and studying. The fraudsters were however based in Jajpur.

One such fraud has been arrested and the rest are on the run said sources from the Cyber police station. The police are raiding various places to search for the fraudsters.

The fraudsters used to give the account number of shopkeepers and take money through them. The arrested youth in connection with house rent fraud in Bhubaneswar has been identified as Dhirendra Jena.

The cyber police has frozen as many as 13 fake bank accounts in this connection. Dhirendra had allegedly conned as many as 12 students. He had siphoned off as much as Rs. 50,ooo said reports.

The cyber  police have recovered eight SIM cards, two bank accounts, two ATM cards and a number of identity proof documents. The police probe is still underway, said reports.
