The Deep Depression over Bay of Bengal will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next six (6) hours, informed the IMD

Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over Bay of Bengal will intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during the next six (6) hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

The Deep Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards with a speed of 13 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 23 October, 2023 over the same region, near latitude 17.0°N and longitude 86.8°E, about 360 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 510 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal) and 660 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

It is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during next 6 hours. It is very likely to move nearly
north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around evening of 25 October, 2023 as a Deep Depression.

It is worth mentioning that light rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur Ganjam and Bhadrak.

Weather warning for Odisha: 

Day-1: Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Puri, at a few places over the rest districts of coastal Odisha, at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and dry weather likely over the rest districts of Odisha.

A Yellow Warning has been issued. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur.

Day-2: Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, at a few places over the rest districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day-3: Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and at one or two places over the rest districts of costal Odisha, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh and dry weather over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day-4: Light to moderate rain/ thundershower very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak and dry weather likely over the rest districts of Odisha.

Day-5: Dry weather very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha.

Fishermen warning:

Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and West central and
North Bay of Bengal till 25 October.

Port Warning :

Keep Hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No-3 (LC-3) at all ports of Odisha.
