Cuttack: In a latest development to the marital discord of Odia cine star couple Anubhav Mohanty and Varsha Priyadarshini, the Cuttack Family Court today rejected Mohanty’s divorce plea.

While rejecting Mohanty’s divorce plea, the court also rejected Priyadarshini’s plea to stay together saying that the couple cannot be brought together again due to several disputes between them.

While informing about the decision of the Family Court, Anubhav Mohanty’s lawyer Lalitendu Mishra said, “The court gave its judgment against us today. We had filed the divorce petition on four to five different grounds. However, the court has rejected our petition for divorce, also similarly rejected their petition which was filed under Section 9, the conjugal rights, saying that as there are so many disputes there is no any scope of bringing them (the couple) together.”

“We will move the higher court challenging the Family Court’s judgment,” he added.

It is to be noted here that the star couple got married in 2014. However, Mohanty, who is a Lok Sabha MP from Odisha’s Kendrapara constituency, filed a divorce petition in Delhi-based court on July 6, 2020. But the case was shifted to the family court in Cuttack following the direction of the Supreme Court on March 5, 2021. Priyadarshini had moved the apex court seeking the transfer of the case from Delhi to Cuttack.

Ever since the beginning of the hearing of the case on March 5, both Anubhav and Varsha filed several cases against each other. However, Varsha had expressed her wiliness to stay together.

Alleging that hearing of the cases are being delayed by the Cuttack Family Court, Anubhav had requested the High Court to transfer the case to the Bhubaneswar Family Court. However, the top court of the State had directed the Cuttack Family Court to conclude both sides’ arguments within four weeks and dispose of the case by October 30.
