Cuttack ATM van loot case: 7 arrested, Rs 64 lakh recovered

Cuttack: In a latest update, seven members of a Lootera gang were arrested by Tigiria police on Tuesday. The gang attempted to loot an ATM van in Tigiria of Odisha’s Cuttack district earlier in November 2023, said reliable reports in this regard.

The accused have been identified as villagers from a village situated within Tigiria.

The police seized a total of Rs 64,45,000 thousand cash. Reliable reports state that officials from the local police station conducted a raid during the midnight hours on Tuesday and arrested the members involved in the ATM loot in Cuttack. Meanwhile, efforts to catch the other members of the gang are currently underway.

It is noteworthy mentioning that the ATM van loot in Cuttack had taken place on November 10, 2023. After which, the police had conducted strict checkings at all entry and exit points in Cuttack.

A total of Rs 1.67 crores was looted by the gang, during the ATM van loot in Cuttack. Notably, an SIT team had been formed to conducted a detailed probe into the matter. Allegedly, the accused had looted the ATM after losing a huge sum of money in an online game.

Two ATM-van staffs remain under suspicion of being involved in the incident. The masked miscreants had used a Scorpio van to conduct the loot. After which, they cut their van into half and had thrown it near the Rengali Dam.

It is noteworthy mentioning that the same gang had earlier attempted to loot other ATMs, twice. If necessary, the police might take the accused into remand for further questioning. Initially, a total of seven people were said to have been involved in the incident. However, latest updates tell us that eight more people have been involved in the ATM van loot case in Tigiria. Efforts are currently underway to nab the remaining accused.

During the raid conducted by the police, the mastermind behind the incident managed to flee from the scene. Along with the cash, the police also seized six mobile phones, a toy gun, and a knife.
