Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday condoled the death of Salipur minor rape victim in the state Assembly.

While speaking about the incident he said, “Honourable Speaker Sir, I feel the deep anguish of the members of this House and of people of Odisha for the terrible rape of a child that took place in Salipur on the twenty first of this month. The accused was arrested within 24 hours of this terrible incident. The child was given the best medical attention by team of doctors at the SCB Medical College in Cuttack. Unfortunately she died last night.”

“I’ll see that most stringent action is taken against the accused. A sum of five lakh of rupees has been granted to the child’s next kin. And I would like to send my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. And again I repeat, I feel a deep anguish at this terrible incident,” he added.

The six-year-old girl was allegedly raped and strangulated by one Md Mustafa on April 21. She had gone to buy biscuits in the evening. As she did not return home, her family members started searching for her. The minor was rescued in an unconscious state from the veranda of a school. She was rushed to Salipur Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to SCB Hospital after her condition deteriorated. She was under ventilator and was being treated by a team of 13 doctors. However, she breathed her last yesterday.

Mustafa was arrested by the police on the following day after the victim’s family filed an FIR.
