Balangir: In yet another road mishap in the State, a school girl has been run over by a speeding car at Fuguda on NH-59 in Balangir district this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Padmini Mallick of Dhumasu village.
As per the report, the victim was en-route to her school by riding a bicycle in the morning when the mishap took place. Near Fuguda, driver of a speeding car which was coming from the opposite direction lost control over the wheels and ended up mowing down the girl. She died on the spot.
Locals intercepted the car involved in the accident immediately and detained the driver. Later they staged a blockade on the Bangomunda-Bhalumunda stretch of the National Highway by keeping the body, due to which a number of vehicles remained stranded on either side of the road.
Police reached the spot and seized the body for autopsy after which normalcy was restored in the area.
