Cuttack: A bridge built over a canal collapsed while a loaded truck was passing over it near Niali in the district today.
As per reports, the bridge which was in urgent need of repair failed to withstand the load of the truck. The truck was carrying construction material for construction of a bridge on Devi river. The truck remained trapped on the bridge in a dangerous condition.
Locals said that the driver and helper of the truck were lucky to escape. “We have been demanding for repair of the bridge for long but the authorities did not take the matter seriously,” said a local.
