Brajrajnagar By-Election: Campaigning comes to an end, Polling to be held tomorrow

Jharsuguda: The campaigning for the by-elections in Brajrajnagar has come to an end today. The polling will be held tomorrow ( May 31 ).

As per the reports, the candidates of the three major parties have given their best during the campaigning.

The voting will begin at 7 am till at 7 pm. As many as 1,228 polling officers, including those reserved for voting, have been deployed in the booths.

At least three companies to the central police team and 970 security personnel have been deployed in the polling booths to maintain law and order.

A total of 2,14,878 people will cast their votes in the Brajrajnagar by-elections. Out of 279 total voting booths, 60 sensitive booths have been identified. Webcasting will take place in 50 percent of the booths.

Notably, the vote counting and results will be published on June 3.

Adding to it, Alaka Mohanty, the wife of former Brajrajnagar MLA late Kishore Mohanty is contesting this by-election on a BJD ticket. Former MLA Radharani Panda had been fielded by BJP for this seat. Likewise, Congress has fielded Kishore Chandra Patel as its candidate.

It is pertinent to mention that after the sad demise of former Brajrajnagar MLA Kishore Mohanty, this MLA seat was lying vacant. The former Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly and former MLA Mohanty died due to a heart attack in December 2021 at the age of 63.

Mohanty first became the MLA for the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency in 1990 from the Janata Dal. Later, he won from the same constituency twice in 2000 and 2009 with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) ticket.
