BJP worker thrashed to death in poll violence in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar: Ahead of the second phase election which is being held in Odisha today, a BJP worker was thrashed to death by a group of rival political party members following a dispute in Kadalijhola village under Sorada police limits in Ganjam district last night.

The deceased lotus party worker has been identified as Santosh Pati (28) of the same village.

As per the report, a verbal duel had erupted between Santosh and members of another political party over tearing of posters which had been put up in the village as a part of the ongoing campaign for the General Election. While the youths returned home after the argument they again returned with sticks and attacked the victim mercilessly leaving him critical on the spot.

Though Santosh was rushed to Bhanjanagar sub-divisional hospital for treatment by his family members and locals for treatment, doctors declared him brought dead there.

Irate locals staged road blockade in the village by burning tyres demanding arrest of the attackers.

Police reached the spot and assured the blockaders of stringent action against the culprits and started an investigation.
