BJP to announce second candidate list for Odisha election shortly: Tomar

Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will announce the second candidate list for Odisha election within two days, informed party’s in-charge for Odisha Vijay Pal Singh Tomar.

“A discussion about the list of candidates was held during the Core Committee meeting and National President JP Nadda has finalised the party’s MLA candidates for Odisha following the consent of the top leadership,” Tomar said while speaking to media persons after attending the meeting yesterday in New Delhi.

“The list of the winnable candidates will be made public within two days,” he added.

It is to be noted here that BJP on March 24 fielded 18 candidates out of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha but did not announce any name for the Assembly elections in the State of Odisha. The saffron party is yet to announce candidates for Cuttack, Kandhamal and Jajpur Lok Sabha seats.

While the twin election to the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Odisha will be held simultaneously in four phases on May 13, 20, 25 and June 1, the votes will be counted on June 4.

On the other hand, the State ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has named 72 candidates for Assembly seats and 15 candidates for Lok Sabha seats. The Congress party, however, is yet to announce the names of the candidates for the twin elections.
