Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will extend support to BJP-led NDA candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, informed Pinaki Misra, BJD’s parliamentary party leader on Tuesday.
A decision regarding this was taken at the meeting of the parliamentary party held in New Delhi today.
Two-time BJP MP Om Birla is to be NDA’s nominee for Lok Sabha Speaker’s post, sources said on Tuesday.
Once nominated, Birla, who won from Kota-Bundi parliamentary seat in Rajasthan, is expected to become the Speaker as the National Democratic Alliance has a clear majority in the lower house.
If elected, Birla will succeed eight-term MP Sumitra Mahajan as Lok Sabha Speaker.
The election for the Speaker’s post is scheduled for Wednesday.
