Balangir: Tension ran high at Shiba Mandir Chhak in Balangir town last night after a biker was mowed down by a speeding truck and locals staged a road blockade to torch a number of vehicles.
The deceased has been identified as Gopal Mishra of Gandhi Nagar Pada area.
As per the report, Mishra was en-route to his home after completing some work in a nearby village when the mishap took place. Driver of a speeding truck lost control over the wheels and ended up running over the victim to kill him on the spot.
Angry locals staged a road blockade following the mishap at Shiba Mandir Chhak and set at least two trucks on fire at the spot. Later, they attacked and damaged a number of trucks parked near the area demanding suitable compensation to the kin of the deceased along with construction of a by-pass road in the area to avert accidents.
Police reached the spot later and pacified the mob after sending the body for postmortem.
