Barabati T20: Cricket fans break barricades after failing to get tickets

Cuttack: Tension prevailed outside Barabati Stadium after spectators broke barricade as they did not get tickets for the T20 international cricket match between India and Sri Lanka scheduled to be played here on December 20.

According to reports, hundreds of enthusiastic cricket fans had made beelines at three counters of the Barabati Stadium since last night to buy tickets. However, when the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) announced that tickets for gallery no 1, 2,3,4,6 and 7 which were sold in counter no 2 and 3, got over, some of the cricket lovers got fumed and broke the barricades and ransacked the ticket counters.

Though, two platoons of police force were deployed on the spot to maintain law and order, the cricket fans outnumbered them and pelted stones at the ticket counters. Later, more police force was rushed to the location to control the situation. Police have detained two persons and are interrogating them.

Meanwhile, ticket sale for the AC box, corporate gallery and New Pavilion is on at counter no 1. As many as 12,500 tickets were to be sold at the counters yesterday and today.

All total 10,362 tickets were sold to the OCA affiliated clubs and institutions on December 15 and 16, while 9,130 tickets were sold online for two days on November 20 and 21.
