Bahanga triple train tragedy: Accused kept at Chandaka Police station under heavy security

The reason behind CBI's decision to utilize the police station instead of their dedicated office space is yet to be known.

Bhubaneswar: In a significant development in the investigation of the Bahanga Triple train accident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken three employees of the Railways on a five-day remand.

The accused have been kept at the Chandaka police station under strict security measures. The reason behind CBI’s decision to utilize the police station instead of their own office space remains to be ascertained.

The three accused have been identified as senior section engineer Arun Kumar Mohanta, section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan, and technician Pappu Kumar. They have been taken on remand after getting permission from the Special CBI court in Bhubaneswar.

The Bahanga triple train tragedy took place on June 02, 2023. A total of 295 lives were lost in the accident while almost 1,100 others were injured. The three trains which were involved in the accident are the 12864 Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, and a goods train.
