Ailing elephant dies in Odisha forest

In an saddening incident for the animal lovers, an ailing elephant reportedly died in Bhejidihi forest under Banspal block of Odisha’s Keonjhar district this morning.

Keonjhar: In an saddening incident for the animal lovers, an ailing elephant reportedly died in Bhejidihi forest under Banspal block of Odisha’s Keonjhar district this morning.

According to reports, a herd of 12 elephants were seen wondering in Nayakot forest beat. However, an elephant, which is assumed to be two-year-old, reportedly fell sick and was seen stranded in the forest.

On being informed about the sick elephant, a team of forest officials including Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Ashok Kumar Das, ranger Nayankant Sahu, forester Jyotirmayee Patnaik and other others reached the spot. They were joined by a team of doctors from Banspal Community Veterinary Hospital led by wildlife doctor Brajaraj Yadav.

Since yesterday, the team tried to provide all possible treatment to keep the pachyderm survive. However, the animal died this morning.

While the exact reason behind the death is not known immediately, the doctors have collected samples to find out the cause of the jumbo’s death, said sources.

The carcasses of the elephant will be buried after all formalities, added the sources.
