8 places in Odisha shiver as night temperature dips below 15°C

Bhubaneswar: The intense cold wave has gripped Odisha after Diwali, indicating the onset of winter season. Apart from infusing chill in the air during early morning, there has been a significant dip in the night temperatures since past few days in many places of the State.

Reportedly, the night temperature has dipped below 15 degree Celsius in 8 places of Odisha on Sunday night, informed the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar today.

The minimum night temperature was recorded at 10° Celsius at the Kashmir of Odisha, Daringbadi in Kandhamal district. It was the coldest place in the State.

Following this, the night temperature dropped to 11.5° C in Phulbani, 12° C in Koraput, 13.5°C Keonjhar, 14.2°C in Bhawanipatna as well as Jharsuguda, 14.8°C Titlagarh and 14.8°C in Sonepur, added MeT reports.

Some places in Odisha has also recorded night temperatures below 20° C such as 15.5 Malkangiri, 16° C in Angul, 16.2° C in Hirakud, 16.5° C in Nayagarh, 16.7° C in Sambalpur , 16.8° C in Chandbali as well as in Baripada , 17° C in Talcher , 17.6° C in Balasore , 18.5° C in Sundargarh , 19.2° C in Paradip , 19.6° C in Gopalpur and 20° C Puri.

It is to be noteworthy of that the night temperature have been recorded at 17.4° C and 17° C in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack repsectively.

 

The Centre further informed that a cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean off Sumatra coast. Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around November 9.

The system is likely to become more marked and move west northwestward towards north Tamil Nadu coast during the subsequent 48 hours, it said.
