Puri: In a tragic incident, a 73-year-old widow died in Puri Jagannath temple during Panchuka the last five days of holy Kartika brata. According to reports, on the second day of Panchuka a 73-year-old Habishyali has died.

The Habishyali (widow) has been identified as Fakir Dhalua from Nayagarh had gone to Lord Jagannath temple and sat on the bench inside the temple as she fell unwell.

Reports say that due to sudden deterioration of health, she was shifted to Puri District Headquarter Hospital (DHH). There the doctor declared her brought dead.

It is worth mentioning here that, more than 3,000 women had registered their names under the State government run Habishyali yojana. The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Habishyali camp through video conferencing.

According to age old traditions, the Habishyalis observe a month-long Kartika brata in Puri Jagannath Temple. The women devotees will take holy bath in different ponds or sea. They worship Radhadamadan. They will get a glimpse of the Lord and get the offering.

The administration had made accommodation, food and health and safety arrangements for more than 3,000 devotees in 5 habisyali centers. Various voluntary organizations of Puri have also joined for their services and support.
