Sundergarh: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 68-year-old divyang woman had to crawl for around 30 kilometres to reach a bank to withdraw her pension money in Odsiha’s Sundergarh district.

As per reports, one Tersa Barla of the Bazarpada village of the district reportedly fell sick for some unknown reasons. She went to a traditional healer of her nearby village. After giving her some medicines, the traditional healer asked her some money. However, as Tersa did not have any penny that time, she went to a nearby ‘Jana Seva Kendra’ to withdraw her pension money.

Upon reaching the ‘Jana Seva Kendra,’ Tersa asked the employee to withdraw Rs 1000 from her bank account. However, the employee allegedly turned her away saying he cannot withdraw the money from her account as her Aadhaar card was not linked with it and it can be done only by the bank employees. Later, she headed towards the Kutra branch of the State Bank of India, which is about 30 kilometres away from her village.

On seen Tersa crawling on a rough and stone-filled road, a journalist inquired about her movement. After learning about her ordeal, the scribe helped her to reach the bank and withdraw the money. The bank officials also clarified that her Aadhaar card has been already linked with the account and the ‘Jana Seva Kendra’ might have fooled her.

Later, the journalist also made arrangements for Tersa’s return to home.

Meanwhile, the incident has not gone down well with the locals and intellectuals who condemned it and demanded a tricycle for Tersa, who is a ‘divyang’ by birth and is living all alone since the death of her parents.

Taking a serious note of the incident, Kutra BDO met Tersa and handed her over a tricycle.
