5-year-old injured after cracker-laden vehicle bursts into flames

Rourkela: Proving the forest official’s negligence costly, a minor boy sustained injury after a cracker-laden vehicle burst into flames in Deokaran village under Biramitrapur Police Station area in Sundergarh district on Friday.

The injured minor boy has been identified as Anuj Kerketa (5), son of David Kerketa of Deokaran village.

The mishap took place this morning while Anuj was playing near his house. Biramitrapur Ranger Ranjkishore Dash who lives next door to the minor’s family had parked a cracker-laden vehicle outside his home after an elephant dispersion drive by forest officials in the area last night. The crackers kept inside the vehicle went off suddenly due to some reason leaving it on fire, injuring the minor playing near it.

The victim was rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela and is out of danger now after treatment.

Biramitrapur Police have reached the spot and started investigation into the incident. They are trying to find out the reason why the Ranger parked the vehicle near his home when he should have parked it at the specified place in the Range Office.
