3 policemen detained for looting Rs 1.47 lakh from bizman

Cuttack: In yet another incident earning bad name for the ‘men in uniform’ police today detained at least three cops for looting cash worth Rs 1.47 lakh from a businessman near Nirgundi toll gate last Wednesday.

The held cops have been identified as Constable Jogendra Pani and Home Guards Braja Kishore Panda and Santosh Mallick of Tangi Police Station.

As per the report, the victim businessman was heading to Bhubaneswar from Chandikhol on Wednesday night when the loot took place. The accused cop trio intercepted the victim at the Nirgundi toll gate for frisking in the guise of Special Squad officers. Later they forcibly snatched away the cash from him.

The incident came to fore yesterday after the looted businessman arrived at the Tangi Police Station and spotted one of the accused Brjakishore there. However, the accused cop trio forced him to settle the matter mutually and sent back without registering an FIR.

After the matter came to the notice of Choudwar SDPO and Cuttack SP (Rural) Radhabinod Panigrahi took suo-motu cognizance to detain the cops today.
