20 flood gates of Hirakud dam are to remain open till August 15. More number of gates may be opened, if the need arises.
Sambalpur: The water level in Mahanadi continues to rise after eight more gates of the Hirakud dam were opened. Currently, a total of 20 flood gates of Hirakud dam have been opened to discharge excess water due to floods.
3,52,051 cusecs of water is being released into the river. The dam is experiencing an inflow of 4,50,812 cusecs of water, causing a surplus of 1,98,761 cusecs of water. At present, the water level at the reservoir stands at 621 feet.
It is worth mentioning that the 20 flood gates of Hirakud dam are to remain open till August 15. More number of gates may be opened, if the need arises.
