2 imposter cops held; apparels, toy gun seized

imposter copsJajpur: At least two youths were arrested by police after impersonating as policemen at the Sathipur area under Panikoili police limits in the district on Sunday.

The arrested persons have been identified as Soumya Ranjan Patnaik of Angul area and Partha Sarathi Dalei of Sathipur village.

The accused duo came under police’s net after they purchased apparels including shirts, pants and shoes from Hingula Fancy Store, a cloth store located in Panikoili Market and owned by one Bijay Kumar Sahoo. After making the purchase, one of the accused Soumya expressed his inability to pay due to insufficient fund in his wallet. However, the shop owner let him go to bring money after he impersonated as the new Inspector-in-charge of Panikoili Police Station.

After Soumya did not return till late, the shop owner felt cheated and lodged a complaint at the Panikoili Police Station finding that the duo was imposters.

Police arrested Soumya and Partha from Sathipur Square later in the day after launching a search. They also seized apparels and shoes worth around Rs 15,000 from their possession.

The accused have been forwarded to court.
