Cuttack: At least two houses were gutted and property worth lakhs were destroyed in a deadly fire which erupted at Nuagaon village under Banki police limits in the district last night.
Smokes were seen billowing out of the house of one resident namely Ajodhya Parida in the village late in the night while all were asleep. The house owner came to know about the fire only after some of his neighbours raised an alarm. After the villagers failed to bring the flames under control in their initial attempt, the local fire brigade was intimated on the incident.
Several fire tenders from Banki Fire Brigade doused the fire after a Herculean effort. However, till then the fire had reduced two houses to ashes completely.
While an electric short circuit is being suspected behind the mishap, the house owner said several important documents have also been lost due to the fire.
