Bhubaneswar: As many as 12 persons tested positive for swine flu in Odisha on Monday, taking the total number of cases to 46 in the state.
Among the 12 new cases of the dreaded H1N1 virus, eight were reported from Khurda, two from Cuttack and one each from Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts.
The swab samples were tested in seven hospitals in the twin city. Fuur samples were tested at Kalinga Hospital, two each at Kar Clinic and AMRI Hospital, one each at Apollo Hospital, Care Hospital, and Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Bhubaneswar, while one sample was tested at Rohini Hospital in Cuttack.
The first swine flu death of the year was reported from the state capital on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the state government has stepped up precautionary measures against avian influenza and issued a public advisory asking government as well as privately-run hospitals to set up separate isolation wards to treat the swine flu affected persons.
